Posted on: Wednesday, 9 August 2006, 12:00 CDT

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) has ranked IBM Websphere Portal as the number one portal software based on software license and maintenance revenue.

According to IDC, IBM led the worldwide enterprise portal software market for the fourth consecutive year, achieving double digit growth from 2004 to 2005.(1)

Highlights from the IDC market analysis include:

-- IDC noted IBM's commitment to service-oriented architecture (SOA) and collaboration technology, its availability of solution frameworks with cross-industry and vertical-specific process capabilities, and the company's portfolio of more than 1,500 back-end connectors to enterprise systems. -- The IBM WebSphere Portal portfolio leverages IBM's SOA technology to deliver role-based composite applications to improve information delivery and collaboration. -- IBM offers portal software that spans a variety of "packaging" -- or hardware -- options, from mobile devices to mainframes.

"Portals are increasingly the entry points for employees to access and share information inside their companies or with third parties, regardless of where the data resides," said Ken Bisconti, vice president, Workplace, Portal and Collaboration Products, IBM. "The growth of Websphere Portal software is driven by customers deploying composite applications that deliver customized information on demand to employees," he added.
