Sphere Communications Announces SphereCSE(TM) Communications Services Engine for OEMs and ISVs

Posted on: Thursday, 10 August 2006, 09:00 CDT

VoIP Developer Conference 2006--Sphere Communications announced today the availability of the SphereCSE(TM) Communications Services Engine - an advanced IP PBX software development platform.

SphereCSE targets Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). "Our unique SphereCSE platform is the ideal choice for rapid flexible development of custom-built or private branded IP communications solutions," announced Graeme Robinson, President, Sphere Communications.

SphereCSE, the core technology behind Sphere's award-winning Sphericall(TM) IP PBX, is a feature rich, call control engine that has been proven across hundreds of thousands of installed ports in multiple industry segments. The engine is SIP-based and supports a wide range of end-user communications devices as well as connectivity services from established and emerging PSTN and SIP service providers. Its unique distributed software architecture scales to 30,000 ports and achieves 99.999% reliability. In addition, Sphere software is certified secure and reliable through its elite JITC PBX1 approval from the U.S. Department of Defense - the most stringent testing and validation available.

Leveraging standards-based XML and SOAP technologies, SphereCSE delivers its comprehensive feature set as easy-to-use Web Services. Rather than requiring expertise in VoIP protocols, PBX systems and low-level Application Programming Interfaces, Sphere's Web Services abstract away the complexity of IP communications, allowing software developers to focus on delivering new and innovative solutions.

"Sphericall is the only Web Services offering that has a sufficiently comprehensive interface at this time; none of the other implementations that we looked at were as broadly usable," noted CMP's Network Computing Magazine in a recent special report evaluating service oriented solutions from leading IP telephony vendors.

Solutions built on the SphereCSE enable users to make phone calls, conduct audio and video conferences, text chat and see presence status. Additional capabilities include configuration and address book management, call forwarding, voice mail, auto attendant, call recording, and much more.

PacStar, one of Sphere's first partners utilizing the SphereCSE platform, has developed the PacStar 5500 series of emergency communications products. "Sphere's Web Services made it very easy for us to create our custom-built communications solution as a PacStar branded product," said Charlie Kawasaki, Sr. VP of Product Development, PacStar.

To get started with the SphereCSE, Sphere Communications provides a Software Development Kit freely downloadable from their website that includes a Web Service Definition Language (WSDL) specification, sample applications (including Web, PDA, and CRM applications), and comprehensive documentation.
