Cedar Point Communications, the leader in integrated packet-based voice and multimedia switching technologies for the cable telecommunications industry, announced today the promotion of Rafael Fonseca to Vice President, Product Evolution and System Engineering.
Fonseca, who had been senior director of product evolution for Cedar Point, will be responsible for identifying market needs and for working with the cable industry to ensure that Cedar Point's SAFARI C(Cubed)(TM) Media Switching System fully supports the current and future needs of customers deploying voice, multimedia and other advanced services.
"The accelerating pace of telephony rollouts and the imminent arrival of multimedia services requires an increased focus on product evolution and management and account support from the technical and application perspective," said Andy Paff, president and CEO of Cedar Point Communications. "As an original member of the Cedar Point team and a networking expert, Rafael Fonseca is uniquely positioned to manage the process of aligning the development of SAFARI C(Cubed) with the needs of cable operators."
During more than 20 years of system and architecture design for Bell Laboratories in the area of Optical/Data Networking, Fonseca was involved with network synchronization, network fault detection and isolation, hardware design, and optical and data networking. Prior to joining Cedar Point, he was strategic applications manager for emerging markets for Lucent Technologies.
An acknowledged expert on telephony security, Fonseca has spoken on the topic at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, the Western Show and other industry conferences. He holds a BSEE from the University of Puerto Rico and an MSEE from Cornell University.
SAFARI C(Cubed) is the only totally integrated carrier class switch that incorporates -- at no additional cost -- all of the components that make up the PacketCable(TM) voice switching infrastructure, eliminating the need for operators to purchase, maintain, upgrade and regression test separate Call Management Servers, Media Gateways, Record Keeping Servers, Announcement Servers, Signaling Gateways, Ethernet Switches and CALEA servers.
Designed to accommodate not only current voice switching needs but also the anticipated migration to video telephony and multimedia services, the PacketCable(TM)-qualified SAFARI C(Cubed) provides superior performance and reliability, significantly reducing capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs for cable operators offering telephony services while increasing network integrity, security and privacy.
