Karta Technologies, Inc. (Karta) is pleased to welcome Dr. Thomas E. Downey, as Vice President of Training Solutions. Dr. Downey has a unique blend of instructional design, technology, project management, human factors and financial experience. He will help to grow the division and to exceed Karta's new business growth targets.
Dr. Downey has proven global success in the aerospace, engineering, publishing, medical education, and health industries and over 20 years experience in adult technical training, education and instructional technology. He led major training technology development projects at the University of Washington, Boeing Aerospace, Boeing Commercial Airplane (B747-400, B757, B767, B777), the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates, and Thomson Learning. At Boeing Commercial Airplane, he performed ground-breaking human factors and instructional technology research in the use of fixed-based simulators and desktop simulations for training advanced troubleshooting skills. This cutting-edge research conducted at the facilities allowed them to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their maintenance training program for the Boeing 777. The results were presented at national and international aviation conferences. This study also satisfied his requirement for his Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Washington. Dr. Downey also holds a master's degree in instructional design and interactive technologies from the University of Washington and an MBA in accounting, information systems, and security from the New York Institute of Technology.
Prior to joining Karta, Dr. Downey served as Chief Technology Officer, then Vice President at Thomson Learning in Cincinnati, OH. There he was responsible for development of all instructional technology product initiatives, business systems, marketing sites, and product support sites. He also participated in enterprise-wide, standards-setting projects and new media technology development efforts.
Gurpaul Singh, Senior Vice President of Training Solutions, commented, "Karta is proud and excited to add Tom's extensive background and leadership capabilities to its exceptionally talented staff."
