Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air to Lift All Pet Restrictions Aug. 12

SEATTLE, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air will again allow pets to travel as checked baggage starting Aug. 12.

The carriers previously banned unaccompanied minor and pet travel Aug. 10 due to the increased likelihood of schedule disruptions caused by new security measures instituted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The airline's unaccompanied minor restrictions were lifted Aug. 11, as were the restrictions on pets traveling in the cabin with passengers or as cargo, but the ban on pets traveling as checked baggage was set to remain through Aug. 11.

Both airlines are continuing to strongly encourage travelers to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure time.

Alaska also is continuing to recommend that passengers check all baggage and do not bring any carry-on items onboard aircraft to help ensure they do not miss their flights. The recommendation is in response to the TSA's increased checks of carry-on luggage at randomly selected airport gates.

Horizon Air, which has different boarding procedures, however, has lifted any baggage restrictions and is allowing carry-on luggage, as well as encouraging use of its Ala Cart planeside baggage service.

Travelers are advised to check the TSA Web site at http://www.tsa.gov/ for the most current information on security restrictions.
