RSA Security Announces Enterprise Beta Test Program for RSA SecurID(R) for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Solution

BEDFORD, Mass., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RSA Security Inc. today announced an enterprise Beta Test Program for the RSA SecurID(R) for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) two-factor authentication solution, which is designed to help Microsoft enterprise customers ensure that valuable desktop and network resources are accessible only by authorized users, while simultaneously delivering a simplified and consistent user login experience. RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows also provides auditing capabilities in a single location that can help companies meet compliance requirements for industry and government regulations such as HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley.
The RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows solution is a primary component of RSA Security's Secure Enterprise Access solutions offerings that are designed to help erase enterprise barriers and boundaries, allowing employees, partners and customers to collaborate and communicate freely and securely. The Beta Test Program, which begins today and runs through July 8, 2004, has been initiated as an opportunity for select organizations to provide feedback and influence product direction to RSA Security for the RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows solution.
"We recognize that password-only security may not be adequate for protecting all of our Windows(R) operating system based workstations and network," said JD Rogers, IT Security Lead, Cinergy Corp., a leading diversified energy company, based in Cincinnati, Ohio. "We are thrilled to see RSA Security and Microsoft working together to offer the means to provide additional security within our enterprise. Cinergy Corp. is a participant in the RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows beta program and we believe that this product will be an important part of our enterprise security strategy."
RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows is designed to provide a simple, consistent user login experience, regardless of whether the user is working on- or offline, remotely or inside the walls of the enterprise. By combining something the user knows (i.e., a secret PIN) with something the user possesses (i.e., a unique RSA SecurID token that generates a random, one-time password every 60 seconds), Microsoft Windows enterprise customers will have a more effective, easier way to secure user access to sensitive company information. The RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows solution is designed to provide significantly greater security than static passwords -- and helps eliminate the need for password change policies. Earlier this month, the RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows solution was awarded a 2004 Readers Choice Award by Windows Server System Magazine in the user authentication category.
"We've been traditionally focused on security issues outside the firewall, and although securing remote access is critical, the RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows solution addresses a real threat to exposing an organization's sensitive data within the enterprise," said Jason Lewis, vice president of product management and marketing at RSA Security. "The model for the modern enterprise is open, global and untethered, and the RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows solution offers organizations a reliable path to stronger security, improved efficiency and increased productivity."
Availability
RSA Security expects that the product will be commercially available in the third quarter of 2004. Through March 2005, new RSA ACE/Server(R) 6.0 base license customers, as well as existing Base license customers that have a current maintenance contract, and upgrade to RSA ACE/Server 6.0 software prior to March 31, 2005, will be able to make use of RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows functionality without having to upgrade to an Advanced license. The solution will be sold directly from RSA Security and through its network of distribution partners. For more details, please visit http://www.rsasecurity.com/go/windows/.
