Momentum Computer Incorporates Latest Intel Pentium M Processor 745 in New VMEbus Single-Board Computer

Posted on: Wednesday, 2 June 2004, 06:00 CDT

Cheetah-V System Ups Performance to 1.8 GHz and Offers PMC Expansion Option

Momentum Computer has introduced a new VMEbus single-board computer based on the newest Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 745 at 1.8 GHz and the Intel(R) E7501 Chipset. The 6U single-slot board can operate in any slot of a standard VMEbus backplane and features operating temperatures from 0 to 55 degrees C. In addition, Momentum will offer this board in a cost-reduced version with the Intel Pentium M Processor at 1.6 GHz. The Cheetah-V supports the new PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) Carrier configuration that will be available as an add-on board containing two 64-bit PMC slots.

The new boards comply with PICMG 2.0 R3.0 and include front panel connections for two RJ-45 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet links, USB, PS2 keyboard and mouse interfaces, VGA interface with DB-15 connector along with a Serial ATA, USB, floppy drive and parallel interfaces on the backplane. In addition to a BIT completion LED indicator, the Cheetah-V includes three user-controlled LEDs, a battery backed real-time clock, a 1MB firmware hub and can accommodate up to 2Gbyte of 64-bit DDR200 SDRAM with error checking and correction at 3.2Gbyte peak throughput. Compatibility with Windows 2000, Windows XP and Linux operating systems assures functionality in a wide variety of applications.

"Our rapid design and development capabilities have enabled us to keep pace with the latest advances in processor technology, so we are pleased to be able to offer our customers this new VMEbus configuration in conjunction with the introduction of the newest Intel Pentium M Processor," noted Momentum's President, Harry White. "The Cheetah-V board is the sixth product that Momentum offers based on this processor family," he added.

"Momentum's new Cheetah-V boards use the Intel Pentium M Processor 745 to offer a new level of performance with low power requirements for a wide variety of VMEbus applications," observed Ton Steenman, general manager, Embedded Intel Architecture Division, Intel Corp.

For increased flexibility, the Cheetah-V PMC Carrier expansion option includes two 64-bit slots capable of 33MHz, 66MHz, 100MHz and 133MHz operation. Two Compact Flash sockets support 3.3V mass storage devices. Optionally, one of the PMC slots can be replaced with a 2.5-inch hard drive.

The new Cheetah-V systems and PMC Carrier expansion option are available from stock for small quantities and delivery times of six weeks for production quantities. Prices for the Cheetah-V 1.6GHz SBC model start at less than $4500 and $595 for the PMC Carrier.
