Avocent Enhances Enterprise Software Integration With Cyclades Data Center Appliances; New Software Also Supports Data Logging, Blade Servers
Posted on: Monday, 14 August 2006, 09:00 CDT
Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT) today announced a significant upgrade to its flagship enterprise DSView(R) 3 management software. The software, which provides a single graphical interface that enables IT administrators to manage data center appliances anywhere in the world, now features data logging, can help manage several blade systems, and has been further integrated with key Cyclades appliances -- important to the fast-growing Linux server and networking infrastructure markets.
Avocent said the appliances that can now be fully managed by the DSView 3 software include the ACS Advanced Console Server, OnBoard Service Processor Manager and PM Intelligent Power Distribution Unit.
"After acquiring Cyclades in March, we quickly completed a basic product integration to ensure our customers had immediate interoperability between the Avocent and Cyclades best-of-breed solutions," said Dave Perry, executive vice president, Avocent Corporation. "This is another important milestone that reflects our commitment to building product interoperability to enhance the value of our management solutions and protect the financial investments made in IT by our customers."
The Cyclades ACS Advanced Console Server provides secure, remote access to IT devices and console port management for UNIX- and Windows-based servers; the OnBoard Service Processor Manager consolidates IP connections, user access and server health information; and the PM Intelligent Power Distribution Unit allows IT professionals to remotely control and monitor the power of servers and network equipment. Full integration of the Cyclades KVM/net and KVM/netPlus KVM over IP switches, and the TS Terminal Servers will be completed later this year.
This latest revision of DSView 3 software also includes a serial console data logging feature to allow ACS and OnBoard customers to securely capture console events on the DSView 3 Server via SSH to more quickly assist with diagnosing issues. The resulting data is valuable in helping businesses meet corporate security policies as well as regulatory compliance mandates such as Sarbanes-Oxley internal control policies and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance.
Seamless access of the HP p-class BladeSystem and the Dell(TM) PowerEdge(TM) 1855 and 1955 blade servers also is now available for customers who use Avocent KVM over IP switches. Customers can control these blade servers by using either the DSView 3 software or the Avocent DSR(R) switch's on-board Web interface.
DSView 3 management software is the only IT manageability software solution with a hub and spoke architecture featuring a fully redundant, replicating database system. Users securely authenticate to a central management hub server or one of up to 15 mirrored spoke servers if the primary server is unavailable. This allows for real-time updates and load balancing across multiple sites.
