Pannaway Technologies, Inc., designers and developers of next-generation, converged IP broadband systems to telecommunications companies, today announced that Polar Communications, a 54-year-old Independent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) and one of its states most established communications providers, has selected and is deploying its multi award-winning Service Convergence Network (SCN(TM)) platform for the simplified delivery of next-generation communications, information and entertainment services to over 12,500 residential subscribers in N. Dakota and Minnesota.
Polar Communications is currently upgrading its legacy TDM and ATM-based systems with a single, easy-to-manage, high-performance Internet Protocol (IP) and Ethernet network from Pannaway. The cooperative's new broadband infrastructure supports a wide spectrum of services including traditional telephony, Voice over IP (VoIP), high-speed Internet and all digital broadcast-quality video. Additional services including Video-on-Demand (VoD), Digital-Video-Recorder (DVR) and High-definition Television (HDTV) will also be made available in the coming months.
"The decision to transition our disparate, legacy systems to a single IP and Ethernet network from Pannaway made sense for us and for our valued cooperative members," said Karl Blake, Internet operations supervisor for Polar Communications. "Pannaway's tightly integrated access & transport solution deploys easily and allows us to deliver a wide range of high-bandwidth services over a single connection giving us a critical edge over competitive service providers."
The cooperative's new RUS-financed (Rural Utilities Service) network consists of Pannaway's Broadband Aggregation Routers (BAR(TM)), Broadband Access Switches (BAS(TM)) and Residential Gateway NIDs (RGN(TM)). This industry-unique, end-to-end approach delivers numerous technological advantages including network-wide distribution of Layer 3 routing for improved bandwidth conservation, extended signal distance and increased security.
Blake adds, "After evaluating all of the major broadband access and transport technology providers, it was clear that Pannaway had the most scalable and complete solution to fit our specific needs."
Pannaway's highly acclaimed Broadband Access Manager (BAM(TM)) is also being used by Polar Communications to simplify the deployment, provisioning and ongoing maintenance of its new broadband equipment and services.
"At Pannaway, our goal is to provide our telco customers with an affordable, integrated broadband access and transport platform that deploys easily and will deliver a full range of revenue-generating services for years to come," said Kevin Brown, vice president of marketing for Pannaway. "With the flexibility of IP, Ethernet and distributed Layer 3 routing, telcos of all types and sizes can now deliver new, high-bandwidth broadband services that rival competitive offerings from even the largest carriers."
