KEYMILE Selects Mindspeed Network Processor for Next-Generation Multi-Service Access Node

Posted on: Thursday, 3 June 2004, 06:00 CDT

Mindspeed's Edge Stream Processor and EdgeMaker Firmware Enable KEYMILE to Provide High Performance and Multiple Protocols for Multi-Service Access Applications

Mindspeed Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that KEYMILE AG has chosen Mindspeed's Edge Stream Processor (ESP) and complementary EdgeMaker firmware for its circuit-to-packet interworking cards in its next-generation UMUX multi-service access node.

The UMUX multi-service access node is a versatile platform that helps network operators reduce capital and operating expenditures, while enabling comprehensive migration to a fully packetized environment.

"We chose the Edge Stream processor and EdgeMaker firmware from Mindspeed because of its flexible and standardized circuit-to-packet interworking services and its interoperability capabilities with third-party network components which we see as a key requirement in the context of network evolution and migration," said Christian Haas, head of product management at KEYMILE Switzerland. "We have been pleased with the collaborative working relationship between our development team and the Mindspeed product support team during the program," he added.

"We are pleased that KEYMILE has chosen to use our Edge Stream processors in its next generation multi-service access node. The flexibility and performance of our ESP products make them ideal for multi-service applications," said Kurt Michel, product manager for Mindspeed's broadband internetworking systems business unit. "Our network processor solutions will enable KEYMILE to further expand in the multi-service access market."

With UMUX, public telecommunications operators can deliver IP/Ethernet, ATM and TDM-based services from a single node. The UMUX multi-service access node includes support for IP/Ethernet, ADSL, G.SHDSL, telephony and private circuit services. UMUX offers built-in SDH, Gigabit Ethernet or ATM functionality for traffic backhaul.

Mindspeed's ESP is a network-optimized processor that combines the benefits of reduced instruction set computing (RISC) and complex instruction set computing (CISC), providing capabilities uniquely suited to network edge and access applications. The EdgeMaker firmware leverages the ESP's processing power and standard interface flexibility to provide internetworking between packet (IP, Frame), cell (ATM), and circuit-based (TDM) networks, providing a turnkey solution for an array of "any-service/any-port" applications.
