(Update) TDK to Sell U.S. Game Unit to U.S. Company

September 4, 2003

Tokyo, Sept. 4 (Jiji Press)–TDK Corp. said Thursday it will sell in November its entire 72 pct stake in U.S. game unit TDK Mediactive Inc. to Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. of the United States for 19.1 million dollars.

TDK, a major Japanese electronic parts maker, owns the stake in TDK Mediactive through TDK’s U.S. holding company TDK USA Corp.

Take-Two, the fourth-largest game developer in the United States, plans to acquire the remaining stake in TDK Mediactive from other shareholders to take full control of the company.

The total acquisition will be worth around 22.7 million dollars.

TDK Mediactive is strong in the development of game software products that use cartoon characters, such as “Casper.” In fiscal 2002, the company racked up sales of 42 million dollars.

Take-Two develops software for game machines produced by Sony Corp. , Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co. .
