Posted on: Monday, 21 August 2006, 09:00 CDT

Ipswitch, a leading developer of network management, messaging and file transfer solutions, today announced that WhatsUp Professional 2006 Premium Edition won the prestigious Techworld award for best monitoring product, beating out a record number of entries. The award's presentations were held at a gala evening in London at the Royal Courts of Justice earlier this summer.

"WhatsUp Professional has a 10-year track record of providing SMBs, as well as larger enterprises, with a proven, cost efficient way to quickly and accurately assess the health of their networks and prevent crippling network failures," said Ennio Carboni, director of product management of Ipswitch. "We are thrilled that WhatsUp Professional has been recognized and awarded Techworld's competitive network monitoring product of the year."

WhatsUp Professional 2006 Premium Edition monitors and manages application and network resources to keep critical business infrastructure, like e-mail servers and databases, up and running so SMBs can focus on their core business without worrying about the technology that supports it. WhatsUp is also gaining traction in Global 1000 companies who need core network and application monitoring that is both fast to deploy and exceptionally easy to use. More than 50,000 organizations around the world have come to depend on WhatsUp to proactively detect and remedy anomalous conditions, preventing unnecessary and costly outages.

Specific features in WhatsUp Professional 2006 Premium Edition include:

-- Dynamic Network Discovery and Mapping -- Discovers networks in minutes using intuitive wizards to scan for routers, switches, servers, printers and other networked devices. All network information is stored in a relational database to enable easy device management and reporting. -- Dynamic Groups lets you group devices by specified characteristics, for example an "all devices that are currently down" group would let you see at a glance where trouble lies. -- Discovers and maps MAC addresses to IP addresses, shows connectivity between a particular switch's ports and devices and allows assets to be located. -- Application Management -- Delivers comprehensive application management for important WMI-compliant applications. -- Comprehensive Network Monitoring -- Tracks the availability and performance of critical business systems, including real-time monitoring of network services, Windows(R) and syslog events, system resource utilization and more. -- Fast Problem Resolution -- Tracks network failures and sends alerts when problems occur, or restarts a stopped service or launches a program automatically. WhatsUp Professional 2006 can: -- Send alerts via email, pager, cell phone, SMS or as audio alerts, plus system task tray alerts -- Forward SNMP traps -- Restart business-critical application services
