UCN Completes Integration of inContact Application Software With VoIP Network; All Levels of UCN Solution - Network, Servers and inContact Software - Are Now Redundant
Posted on: Wednesday, 9 June 2004, 06:00 CDT
UCN(TM) (a division of Buyers United(TM) Inc.) (OTCBB:BYRS), a provider of business telecommunication services, including contact center software applications hosted within its national VoIP network, today announced the company has completed a six-month software upgrade and technical integration of the inContact(TM) software suite with the national VoIP network acquired in December 2002. This integration enables UCN to move its customer base to the more reliable, redundant VoIP platform as the primary hosting environment for the software suite.
"This new software release allows us to expand our market reach and it gives our customers a more reliable option than what they can achieve with a premise-based solution," said Paul Jarman, president, UCN. "Unlike many hosted solutions, this integration allows our users to make real-time changes to their applications in the IP network."
With this latest network investment and development effort, the inContact software has been tightly integrated into the switching fabric of the network and enhanced to detect and handle failover. The entire inNetwork(TM) application server farm (see editor's note), which supports the inContact application suite, has been replicated at two server centers, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. If, for example, a software service or the server that runs the application fails at the primary Salt Lake center, the software and hardware have been architected and configured to detect a failure and failover to a redundant software service or server running in Los Angeles. As business and traffic grows, the company is prepared to replicate the inNetwork server farms at additional network server centers, further expanding hardware and software failover options.
Now, all three levels of the UCN technology solution -- the national IP network, the servers that run the various aspects of the network and the application software, and the application software itself -- have been designed and configured for failover and redundancy. The national network (see editor's note) runs on a redundant backbone. The four Intelligent Network Server Centers (INSC) have multiple links to each other. Each server center is housed in a carrier-grade facility run by one of UCN's carrier partners. Each secure facility has 24x7 access-control, redundant power and fire suppression systems.
From Transport to Intelligent Network with Dynamic Applications
The UCN IP network is no longer just a transport network for voice and data. With the inContact application tightly integrated into the switching fabric of the network, UCN now operates a nationwide intelligent application processing platform. What makes this intelligent platform different is that inContact is a dynamic application, not a static application. InContact can be configured and changed by the end user, while a static application, such as a Centrex, can not.
