8×8 Teams With Level 3 to Increase Market Coverage For Its Packet8 Voice Over IP (VoIP) Service

June 9, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and BROOMFIELD, Colo., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — 8×8, Inc. and Level 3 Communications, Inc. today announced that they have teamed up to add more than 300 U.S. markets to the Packet8 Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) service.

Using Level 3′s (3)VoIP(SM) Local Inbound Service, 8×8′s Packet8 residential VoIP service now covers more than 2,400 U.S. rate centers, significantly increasing the availability of the service in cities throughout the country, including recently added cities such as Flagstaff AZ, Beverly Hills CA, Bloomington IL and Rockaway NJ.

“Our subscribers have always asked for local calling for those who call them the most. With the addition of these new area codes and calling centers, the Packet8 service covers as broad an area as any VoIP provider,” said Bryan R. Martin, chairman and CEO of 8×8, Inc. “This expanding network further enhances the appeal of the Packet8 service to new customers which, in addition to providing superior quality, remains the lowest priced consumer VoIP solution for unlimited calling to the public switched telephone network.”

“Level 3 continues to work with 8×8 to help the company develop and deploy one of the best consumer VoIP services available today,” said Kevin Dundon, senior vice president of Wholesale Voice Services for Level 3. “One of the key elements of providing a solution with universal appeal is the availability of the largest possible local coverage. Level 3 is well positioned to provide this coverage because our (3)VoIP Local Inbound service now reaches more than 80 percent of the U.S. population.”

(3)VoIP Local Inbound service significantly reduces communications costs for VoIP service providers, foreign carriers, contact center operators, conferencing providers, calling card operators and other service providers that require a reliable and geographically expansive local calling infrastructure. The service complements (3)VoIP Toll Free(SM), Level 3′s toll-free, nationwide calling solution.

The (3)VoIP Local Inbound service enables customers to:

— Establish an immediate local presence in more than 300 markets across the United States;

— Leverage the economics of the Internet;

— Design and deliver new applications quickly and cost-effectively;

— Streamline call flows.

Separately, 8×8 also announced that its Packet8 customer care line is now available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Packet8′s customer care line can be reached by dialing 1-888-898-8733.
