5 Japanese companies join hands on PC recycling system
TOKYO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Mitsubishi Electric Corp. said Monday that one of its subsidiaries, Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Corp., and four other companies will team up to collect and recycle used personal computers (PCs).
The move comes as PC manufacturers are required to collect and recycle unwanted home computers from Oct. 1, according to the major electric company.
The other companies are NEC-Mitsubishi Electric Visual Systems Corp., a joint venture of Mitsubishi Electric and NEC Corp.; Samsung Japan Corp.; Eizo Nanao Corp. and Totoku Electric Co.
To collect used PCs, the companies will exploit a collection system built through an alliance between the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association and Japan Post, a public postal service corporation.
Beginning on Oct. 1, consumers across Japan will be offered via the Internet a convenient channel for PC collection, which will also benefit the five firms in light of cost effectiveness and efficiency in their business operations.
