Cabela's Ensures Enterprise Network Availability With HughesNet Access Continuity Service

GERMANTOWN, Md., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), a leader in the top-tier managed network services market, today announced that it is providing Cabela's, the world's largest mail order, retail and Internet outdoor outfitter, with HughesNet(TM) Access Continuity Service. Designed to help organizations prevent costly downtime caused by connectivity outages, HughesNet Access Continuity Service uses satellite broadband technology to create a truly diverse access path from a primary terrestrial network.
"At Cabela's, the availability of information is an important part of our successful relationship with our customers," said Nick Stafford, Enterprise Infrastructure project manager, Cabela's. "Our customers depend on us to provide them with up-to-date product information, accurate inventory, and field expertise that is second to none. The HughesNet Access Continuity Service completes a critical link in the technology infrastructure that we depend on to provide our customers with an industry leading customer service experience. With the HughesNet Access Continuity Service, each retail store can service several million customers a year, comfortable with the knowledge that critical information remains available, even during terrestrial outages."
Cabela's selected HughesNet Access Continuity Service to ensure that they could continue to serve in-store customers, fulfill online and catalog orders, and transport goods within the organization without having to rely solely on terrestrial providers for connectivity. Without the communications diversity provided by HughesNet, Cabela's critical business applications, such as point- of-sale and inventory management, could be rendered unavailable in the event of a terrestrial network outage.
With HughesNet Access Continuity Service, customers can buy a managed network with capacity to provide backup for a single site, a handful of sites, or the entire network as business requires. Customers retain complete operations and management control of the primary terrestrial network, and determine the policies governing connectivity when the primary path is not available.
"Terrestrial network outages are a fact of life. Companies cannot afford to lose revenue from a location when the primary network connection goes down," said Mike Cook, senior vice president, Hughes. "HughesNet Access Continuity Service can quickly bring sites on line and protect companies like Cabela's against significant revenue losses due to network outages."
HughesNet Access Continuity Service includes network design assistance, installation, maintenance, and management of the satellite-based backup network. The result is an overall network that can operate at greater than 99.99% availability at a reasonable cost.
