Mainstream Doubles EPA Photo Network Throughput and Introduces MediasHAL(TM) Site Monitoring Technology

Mainstream Data announced today that The European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) has doubled the throughput of its satellite/Internet photo distribution network and has implemented Mainstream's newest remote site monitoring technology, Medias Hierarchical ALarm System (MediasHAL(TM)). EPA, the number one picture service in Europe and one of the leading international photo agencies worldwide, is using its expanded capacity on the Mainstream-operated network to increase photo production and to deliver higher resolution photographs and at the same time insure real-time delivery.
In addition to increasing its distribution bandwidth, EPA is now using MediasHAL(TM), a new remote site monitoring technology. MediasHAL allows EPA to view real-time content delivery status and to gather reliability and throughput statistics from all of its remote clients around the world. While Mainstream will continue to manage and monitor EPA's network, MediasHAL allows EPA real-time visibility into network status twenty-four hours per day, 365 days per year. In addition, MediasHAL provides worldwide web-based access to all critical monitoring parameters as well as customized, automated email alerts based upon changes in network status.
First providing a solution for EPA in 2003, Mainstream has been providing digital media delivery solutions to the world's premier information providers for more than two decades. EPA delivers an average of more than 900 images to print and electronic media outlets around the world each day. Photos are inserted into Mainstream's satellite and Internet delivery platform from where they are encrypted and routed within seconds to EPA's customers for immediate use.
EPA's expansion and its adoption of MediasHAL reflect the news industry's movement toward an increased focus on high quality multimedia news coverage. As news has become increasingly content-rich and consumers have required more instantaneous, global coverage, the demand for larger and more robust networks has grown. Mainstream's suite of Medias content delivery solutions meets those needs, integrating broadcast satellite, two-way VSAT, web, and Internet-push distribution plus content management and display applications.
"Expanding our network with Mainstream was a logical step for us," noted Joerg Schierenbeck, Managing Director of the European PressPhoto Agency. "Creating images that convey the essence of world events through pictures is our core competence; delivering those images is Mainstream's. This latest expansion allows us the freedom to focus on our product while Mainstream provides delivery."
"We couldn't be more pleased with our expanding relationship with EPA," said Scott Calder, President and CEO of Mainstream Data. "By eliminating EPA's capacity constraints and by enhancing our monitoring technology, EPA is freed to take advantage of its core strength: capturing and delivering the world through pictures."
