Hostway reminds trademark holders to register a .mobi domain during the extended trademark sunrise period through September 22nd and receive a free Web site builder
Hostway Corporation, the leading global provider of Web hosting and online services, announced the extension of the Trademark Sunrise period until September 22nd for the .mobi domain name. During this time, anyone can register any national trademark as a .mobi domain if the trademark was filed before July 11, 2005 and is actively registered.
Approved by ICANN, .mobi is a new top-level domain specifically created for Internet use on mobile devices backed by leading mobile operators, network device manufacturers and Internet content providers worldwide including: Ericsson, Google, GSM Association, Hutchison, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, TIM and Vodafone.
The trademark sunrise period gives trademark holders the opportunity to register their trademarks in the .mobi domain before the general registration, when the registry will be open to anyone. Trademark holders are therefore strongly encouraged to register their domain before the sunrise period ends on September 22nd.
.mobi was created to accommodate the needs of the growing segment of mobile Internet users. To overcome the past issues experienced with accessing the Internet from a mobile device such as high bandwidth cost, low content quality, applicability and slow access, the .mobi registry has created guidelines for Web sites to be compliant for .mobi.
"We are confident that the .mobi revolution will take-off because it's sponsored by the most prominent mobile and Internet players in the world - the very same companies who have delivered the promise of today's information society," said John Lee, VP of global marketing of Hostway. "We want to ensure our customers have access to this new technology and therefore we're making it easy for them to design a .mobi compliant Web site with our template-based Web site builder, which is currently available for free with each .mobi domain registration purchased through Hostway."
