Instant Media (I'M), a privately-held technology company pioneering Internet TV, today announced that over 500,000 users have subscribed to the company's free Internet TV software. Through a patent-pending media caching capability, I'M provides its users access to more than 550 channels, including popular programs covering the latest in news, sports, entertainment and technology. Unlike the limited resolution provided by streaming media, I'M's cached media approach gives users high-quality, full screen video in standard and high definition. Additionally, by employing the unique caching technique, I'M delivers a 100% glitch-free viewing experience, unlike that of typical streaming video.
I'M officially launched its free Internet TV software in May of 2006. As interest in online video continues to escalate, the 500,000 registered I'M users reflect the growing demand for Internet TV solutions that provide a simple, straightforward way to download favorite programs. I'M's integrated catalog of videos, videocasts, audiocasts, and news feeds allow users to subscribe to their personal mix of content, while easily exploring the hundreds of channels at their fingertips to find new favorites.
According to a study by the Online Publishers Association (OPA), 46 percent of all Internet users watch video at least once a month. The study also found that half of all video viewers return to a specific Web site to find video, and a strong majority of video viewers (58 percent) say they rely on two to five sites.
"Achieving this number of users so quickly demonstrates that I'M is rapidly growing as the entertainment destination of choice," said Andy Leak, CEO of Instant Media. "The market for online video is exploding, and we have shown that for hundreds of thousands of users, the best destination for on-demand entertainment is right on their desktop using Instant Media to watch full-screen video."
Consumers can download the I'M player for free at www.im.com. Once the player is installed, consumers can browse an integrated directory of channels, subscribe to their favorite channels, and then continue working on their PC while shows download in the background. New shows appear automatically, and are ready to watch instantly.
