SafeNet's Sentinel Hardware Keys Selected By GL Company to Protect Its Software

Posted on: Thursday, 31 August 2006, 09:00 CDT

SafeNet, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFNT), setting the standard for information security, today announced The GL Company, distributor of instrument-based learning systems, has chosen SafeNet's Sentinel Hardware Keys to protect their software.

Sentinel Keys are software rights management tokens that protect software vendors from unauthorized use or distribution of their products. The Sentinel Dual Hardware Keys provide an easy method for software developers currently using SafeNet's SuperPro or UltraPro to upgrade to the next generation of Sentinel security.

The GL Company required a way to securely implement a pay per usage model for the generation of reports with their learning software. Each usage, or generation of report, is referred to as a 'click.' The GL Company needed a method for securing the total number of clicks, yet flexibly enabling the transfer of clicks to distribute the product. To date, 15 million clicks have been generated.

"We are looking forward to using the new Sentinel Dual Hardware Keys, as they will greatly ease our upgrade process," said Gary Little, President of the GL Company. "We currently use the Sentinel SuperPro key because they met our security and flexibility requirements. In creating our unique licensing method, I received tremendous help from SafeNet engineering. It would have been impossible without their support. The Sentinel Key is the only way that this kind of application could have been successful. Clicks can be easily transferred from one PC to another and the money invested goes with the Key."

With Sentinel Dual Keys, SafeNet customers can begin shipping new software protection tokens that will support their existing SuperPro or UltraPro protected applications without making any changes to their application. When releasing subsequent versions of their software, developers can implement the enhanced security of Sentinel Hardware Keys. Sentinel Dual Hardware Keys can then be remotely upgraded to support future implementations without the need to ship additional hardware tokens.

"We are excited to offer this convenient upgrade path for our customers as well as the end users of their software," said Ken Chow, general manager, Software Protection Business Unit, SafeNet Inc. "When distributing their latest software release, our customers will not have to incur the expense of shipping new keys to their current end-users."

Sentinel Hardware Keys are SafeNet's industry-leading hardware tokens which, when attached to a computer or network, monitor and enforce the licensing of products which have been protected using this solution. Sentinel Hardware Keys deliver military-grade security through public key cryptography, AES encryption and internal authentication. Sentinel Hardware Keys are one of the main components of SafeNet's Unified Software Protection, the world's first comprehensive solution for protecting software products from unauthorized use and distribution.
