Oplus(R) Technologies, Ltd., a leading provider of innovative system-on-chip and software solutions for Flat Panel TVs and digital displays, and Global Display Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Global-Tech Appliances Inc., today announced that Global Display has selected several Oplus display and video processors to power multiple lines of digital displays. The Oplus-based Plasma Display Panels (PDPs), LCD-TVs and projectors are being offered by Global Display as OEM products to brand marketers throughout Asia, North America and Europe.
Global Display was established in mid-2003 to address the bourgeoning flat panel TV market for its parent company, which is a major manufacturer of small household appliances. The new company is pursuing an aggressive program of developing and marketing high-end display products. Less than a year after it was founded, Global Display has already begun marketing its first LCD-TVs and PDPs, most of which are based on Oplus processors. It also has several additional Oplus-based products in development, including a high-end front projector.
This first line of PDPs comprises a 42" model based on Oplus' Rembrandt(TM)-102 digital display processor and Matisse(TM)-1 digital video de-interlacer chip, as well as 42" and 32" PDPs that use Oplus' Monet(TM)-203 integrated multimedia digital display processor chip. Global Display will also offer a series of high-end LCD-TVs with 40", 32" 30", 26" and 23" screens, all of which will be driven by the Monet-203 processor. The upcoming front projector will also be based on the Monet-203 chip.
"Our alliance with Oplus has been instrumental in allowing Global Display to get to market so quickly with a wide range of LCD-TV and PDP products is," said Jimmy Lau, Director of Sales & Marketing at Global Display. "We chose Oplus to provide the main processor in all our initial larger screen devices because they were able to provide us with an extensive suite of high-end features, along with the comprehensive support we needed to quickly enter this competitive market. I am very pleased to report that the positive response we have received in our sales meetings with leading brand companies validates our approach and our choice of partner."
Yair Alpern, CEO of Oplus Technologies added: "Global-Tech Appliances' entrance into the flat panel TV market through its Global Display subsidiary confirms the immense potential of this market. We applaud their vision and are proud to partner with Global Display to develop a wide variety of digital display devices that deliver numerous performance, image quality and cost advantages."
