Panasonic Recalling PC Notebook Batteries
September 6, 2006
Panasonic, owned by Japan’s Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., is recalling 6,000 computer notebook batteries.
The action is the third such recent recall of lithium ion batteries, which are seen as a fire hazard, CNET News reported Wednesday. Dell Inc. recalled 4.1 million lithium ion batteries and Apple Computer Inc. recalled 1.8 million batteries.
Concerns that such batteries could ignite while in use have prompted some airlines to prohibit their use on board aircraft.
