The New York Times Launches New Real Estate Web Sites

September 6, 2006

"Home Finance Center" Helps Users Navigate the Process of Financing a Home

The New York Times Company announced today the launch of two new Real Estate Web sites. "Great Homes" features extensive luxury and second-home listings, Web-exclusive content with original articles written for the site, destination and lifestyle guides, videos, slide shows and interactive maps. The "Home Finance Center" helps users navigate the mortgage process. "Great Homes" and "Home Finance Center" were developed in partnership with other Times Company properties including The Boston Globe, the International Herald Tribune, The Ledger (Lakeland, Fla.), Sarasota Herald-Tribune and The Press Democrat (Santa Rosa, Calif.).

"The New York Times Company is uniquely positioned to expand our focus on luxury real estate," said Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager, NYTimes.com. "Our new online addition, ‘Great Homes,’ takes advantage of our collection of luxury home listings, and combines that with our unparalleled coverage of the luxury and vacation home market from the pages of The Times."

"Great Homes" (www.nytimes.com/greathomes) features a searchable database of more than 30,000 real estate listings located in desirable second-home destinations such as Manhattan, Napa, the Hamptons, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Miami and Florida’s Gulf Coast, as well as select locations in Europe.

"Great Homes" will focus on the lifestyle unique to each area, including dining, shopping and nearby amenities such as golf courses and beaches. Web-only guides provide visitors with an introduction to each destination. The site also includes Times articles on the area’s history, architecture and overall real estate trends. Multimedia, such as full color pictures of each area and streaming video content that accompany some articles, enhance the viewer’s experience.

The "Home Finance Center" (www.nytimes.com/homefinance) includes Web tools and exclusive content that help visitors navigate the process of financing a home. The site features mortgage calculators; mortgage and home equity charts powered by Bankrate.com, an aggregator of financial rate information; the Mortgage Finder, a feature powered by FormServer (a product of ROOT Markets) that allows visitors to apply online for quotes and information from lenders; and a toll-free calling service, powered by LeadPoint, which gives visitors the option to speak directly with a lending professional. Bob Tedeschi’s weekly column on mortgages and Jay Romano’s weekly Q & A column provide visitors with tips on how to make the right home finance decisions.

"We understand that financing a home is complex," said Ms. Schiller. "We make it simple. NYTimes.com/RealEstate has long been known for being the best address in real estate. Now our readers can rely on us, as a trusted online advisor, to also help navigate the mortgage process."
