MindTouch Enhances Email With Wiki Collaboration

Posted on: Wednesday, 6 September 2006, 09:00 CDT

MindTouch is bridging the gap between desktop and Web applications with today's launch of the MindTouch Connector for Microsoft(R) Outlook(R), the first tool for publishing messages and attachments from the industry's leading email platform directly into wiki pages. With one click, businesses can now unlock, organize and share the full context of email correspondence in a collaborative environment instead of isolating the information on individual desktops.

In a recent survey, MindTouch found that nearly 90% of 252 respondents used email to share project information with team members, and 71% said they accidentally edited over each other's work. This problem, which MindTouch coins "Multiple Document Disorder" (MDD), highlights just one of the many challenges companies experience when email is misused for collaboration instead of its intended purpose as a messaging tool.

The MindTouch Connector for Microsoft Outlook is the latest enhancement for the MindTouch Managed Office Server (MOS), an onsite wiki appliance specifically designed to meet the information management needs of small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). MindTouch MOS sits securely behind a customer's firewall, allowing companies to maintain control of their data by keeping it on their own networks. Business continuity is ensured through remote management features, including encrypted offsite data back-ups.

"Before MindTouch, we had no efficient way to organize and track the deluge of emails we received on a daily basis," stated Ken Goldman, principal at interactive marketing agency, IdeaPark. "We were collecting messages in our separate inboxes, and spending way too much time sifting through files to find the correct versions. Now we can quickly and easily share entire email chains and attachments on one wiki page. It's a simple yet powerful solution."

To use the new feature, an employee first selects the email they want to post on the MindTouch MOS then clicks the "Publish" button on the toolbar. The entire conversational thread and all related attachments are then captured in a central repository where the information can be shared more effectively, saving valuable time and creating a new level of productivity for businesses.

"SMBs struggle to streamline the collaboration process due to a lack of simple and cost-effective options for sharing files and information," said Steve Bjorg, president and CTO of MindTouch. "With MindTouch, companies can now combine the ubiquity of email with the power of wiki technology in a way that was previously only available to the enterprise."
