ORLANDO, Fla., June 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2004 -- One of the cable industry's greatest untapped opportunities is providing commercial services to the approximately eight million small- and medium-sized enterprises that spend, in aggregate, $80 billion on voice and data services each year. As the launch of Commercial Services, HDTV, VOD, DVR and other programming and services expands the demand for bandwidth, managing and enhancing existing bandwidth become high priorities. Scientific-Atlanta's new Commercial Services and bandwidth management and enhancement solutions will be featured in the company's booth 0431 at SCTE's Cable-Tec Expo 2004 in Orlando, June 15-18.
Versatile Commercial Services platforms and products
- The BroadLAN(TM) platform provides new opportunities for cable
operators to "Rev it Up" as they hit the revenue accelerator to offer
HFC-based T1 services, symmetrical data service with no bottlenecks and
dedicated Internet access - all with no outside plant changes.
- The Prisma(R) CWDM Media Converter platform easily integrates into HFC
and metro networks for rapid startup of Commercial Services. The Media
Converter can deliver simple, low-cost, effective, efficient use of
existing spare fiber to deliver dedicated Internet access and optical
private line services.
- The Prisma IP(TM) E100(TM) platform is the best answer if you need to
deliver data, voice and video over a single fiber-based IP network that
supports carrier-grade, highly-scalable performance.
- The new ROSA(TM) Element Manager (EM) cost-effectively monitors and
manages co-located equipment in main sites, cable hubs and transmitter
sites. It delivers low-cost, low-maintenance performance based on SNMP
open standards to improve management and performance deep into your
network.
- The Ethernet module (sidecar) for the Proteus(TM) node return digital
solution allows cable operators to offer over 100 Mb of voice or data
services using their existing cable infrastructure and standard HFC
products.
Bandwidth Enhancement solutions
Scientific-Atlanta's Bandwidth Enhancement solutions include analog-to- digital (A/D) conversion, encoders, transrating, dynamic QAM management with QAM and Continuum(R) modulators, access network bandwidth-maximizing 1 GHz GainMaker(R) amps and nodes, and more.
Network on Demand
The key featured products for delivering powerful services on-demand include the Prisma IP multi-service digital transport platform with its new 10 Gbps video-on-demand (VOD) transport cards. This solution supports the automation delivered by tunable transmit/receive optics to enable a new Automated Broadcast and Select architecture. Additional Scientific-Atlanta solutions include DWDM, QAM and dense QAM arrays, and the latest in fiberoptic technologies.
Advanced DVR, HD and voice services
- New Explorer(R) 8300MR(TM) Multi-Room(TM) DVR will allow up to three
other TVs equipped with non-DVR Explorer set-tops in the home to
securely access and play back encrypted content stored on the 8300MR-
DVR through existing in-home coax wiring. The 8300MR-DVR is currently
in field trials.
- The Explorer 8300HD(TM) High Definition Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is
Scientific-Atlanta's next generation HD-DVR which delivers the choice,
convenience and control of a dual-tuner Digital Video Recorder with
stunning High Definition Television (HDTV) video and digital surround
sound.
- Scientific-Atlanta DPX2203(TM) cable modem (EMTA) - the industry's
first DOCSIS(TM) 2.0, PacketCable(TM) 1.0 certified Voice over IP cable
modem provides one of the most advanced, stable and proven cable VoIP
solutions available today.
Operations Support System (OSS) solutions from SciCare(TM) Broadband Services
Scientific-Atlanta's Operations Support System (OSS) solutions can help cable operators build and optimize their revenue and profitability.
- Retriever(TM) Set-Top Telemetry Diagnostics and Viewership Measurement
solution meets the growing demand for improved insight into consumers'
viewership habits, while protecting the consumer's privacy, and for
proactive monitoring of set-top and network performance at the
subscriber's TV set.
- The OSS Automated Backup solution for the Scientific-Atlanta Digital
Network Control System (DNCS) is customized to match each operator's
specific network configuration.

reliable and less expensive than commonly used tapes.
