Globecomm Systems Selected to Participate In The U.S. Army Worldwide Satellite Systems $5 Billion Program for The Next Five Years
Posted on: Thursday, 7 September 2006, 12:00 CDT
Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a global provider of end-to-end satellite-based communications solutions, today announced that the Company is one of six contractors selected to participate in the U.S. Army's $5 Billion Worldwide Satellite Systems Program (WWSS) for the next five years.
The Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems and Warfighter Information Network-Tactical Program jointly manage the WWSS. Under the five year $5 billion program, WWSS will bring Government agencies turnkey commercial satellite systems and associated support services for satellite terminals, including all hardware, software, services and data to operate terminals.
Besides Globecomm, five other contractors including The Boeing Company, General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, DSCI, Telecommunication Systems and Data Path, were each awarded an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Contract. As requirements for particular satellite terminals and services arise, the contractors will compete for the individual task orders to be issued under the IDIQ contracts.
David Hershberg, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Globecomm Systems Inc., said: "The WWSS contract award is a significant milestone in the increasing market share for Globecomm in the US Government sector. This contract award assures that Globecomm will continue to be one of the premier companies delivering satellite solutions to all branches of the US Government. The IDIQ contract format opens up the satellite infrastructure and services market to any US Government agency, even those that have not procured these systems and services in the past, and Globecomm will be there to fulfill those needs."
