BeNetSafe Expands Online Child Safety Search Service Informing Parents If Their Child's Information is Available to Predators; New Service Protects Minors By Searching MySpace and Xanga

Posted on: Tuesday, 12 September 2006, 09:00 CDT

Due to the high number of online incidents where one in seven children are reported to be confronted sexually online, BeNetSafe today announced the expansion of its Internet-based chaperone search service to include Xanga, a popular social networking, blog and photoblog Web site. Launched last month to much acclaim, www.BeNetSafe.com is a simple, effective, easy-to-use tool that gives parents the information they need to help protect their children and teens from potentially dangerous and risky behavior online.

"Our kids need proper supervision, whether they are at a friend's house or hanging out at the mall, or on the Internet. BeNetSafe is an easy-to-use site designed by parents for parents that saves time by expertly searching for your child's information left out on public forums or Web sites," said Brad Weber, co-founder and CEO of BeNetSafe.

"After starting with MySpace, Xanga is the next of many additional social networking sites that BeNetSafe will monitor via our automated search technology, enabling parents to follow their children wherever they go online and easily see if their kids are sharing personal information with strangers - or if someone inappropriate is hanging out on their site," added Michael Edelson, co-founder and President of BeNetSafe.

Using only minimal information provided by parents about their child, BeNetSafe searches for and effectively deconstructs "profile pages" and delivers easy-to-read reports to parents outlining their child's online information directly to their inbox via email or a secure Web page. Xanga and MySpace are the two most popular social networking sites on the Web where adolescents and teens spend time posting photos, chatting with friends and strangers and creating individual sites. Wikipedia posted 500,000 new MySpace users are signed-up on the popular site each week. Parents interested in signing-up for the program to see if their child is one of them can go direct to http://store.benetsafe.net/yahoo-start.html.
