Broadcast International Files New Multimedia Data Stream Patent Application

Posted on: Wednesday, 13 September 2006, 09:00 CDT

Broadcast International ("BI") (OTCBB: BCST) today announced that it has filed a non-provisional patent application with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for a system of processing multimedia data streams. The patent covers a method of reducing the bit rate (the speed at which data is transmitted) of multimedia data, while maintaining high image quality.

The process involves pre-encoding, de-interlacing, noise reduction, multi-scalar quantization, motion estimation, or combinations in any suitable manner thereof on a stream of substantially real-time data, such as video streams, to achieve a high reduction in bit rate with a very high quality resulting picture.

This new technology adds to BI's technology patent base first established with its patented CodecSys technology, a unique multi-codec system that employs real-time, artificial intelligence systems to manage libraries of standard and specialized codecs in order to determine the optimum codec process, on a frame-by-frame basis, to produce high quality video at the lowest possible bandwidth. The new addition will facilitate delivery of high quality, low bit rate content to the millions of legacy systems currently in the market place, as the data stream can be recognized and played with existing video players.

Rod Tiede, BI's president and CEO, said, "The unique character of the BI codec systems approach is its ability to achieve the most proficient results for today's multimedia market place. Organizations will benefit from BI's advanced technologies by delivering highly effective, focused communications."
