Softek Announces First UNIX Host-Based Data Migration Software For Performing Single-Volume, Multi-Threaded Copies for 4X Faster Migrations

Softek Nonstop Data Mobility(TM) Solutions Enhanced for Large, Enterprise Environments; Now Support Industry's Broadest Array of Clustered UNIX Environments

Softek(R) Storage Solutions, the leader in Nonstop Data Mobility(TM) software solutions, today announced a new version of its open systems data migration software that significantly increases performance and manageability within large, enterprise UNIX environments. The new product will debut at the HP Technology Forum, to be held in Houston, September 17 - 21 (Booth 328).

Softek Transparent Data Migration Facility (TDMF) UNIX, Version 3.0, is the industry's first software that allows logical disk volumes to be segmented into multiple regions during the migration process to allow local data migrations to be completed four times faster as compared to existing tools and utilities. Also new is extending the popular Common Console feature of the Softek TDMF IP distance data migration software, to provide a single-screen central point of control and management for local migrations.

Softek TDMF 3.0 also offers the broadest support of UNIX clustered environments with new support for Veritas Cluster and IBM High Availability Cluster Management Program (HACMP). This complements the previously supported HP Service Guard clustering technology.

New features for Softek TDMF UNIX 3.0 include:

-- Multi-Threaded Copy - Enables logical volumes to be divided between two and four logical regions, each of which can be concurrently copied from the source and target disks. A four-fold performance speed is achieved when the maximum four logical volumes setting is selected.

-- Locking and Error Recovery - Allows up to 90 percent of I/Os that occur to the source disk during a migration to complete with no impact to production applications. This is facilitated through intelligent 'window locking' and detection of physical errors on the migration targets.

-- Common Console - Enables an organized approach to complex storage migrations in large, multi-server environments by providing a single-screen central point of control and management, with the ability to group servers according to the phase/stage they are in within the actual data migration process. This also provides a useful "at-a-glance" status of all servers within the infrastructure to track the state and preparedness of each server.

Softek TDMF UNIX 3.0 is available immediately. The program supports a wide array of UNIX versions, including HP-UX, IBM AIX and Sun Solaris.
