Comcast Cable Gains 20,000 Customers of Dallas-Based TVMAX

Jun. 18--Comcast Cable has acquired 20,000 customers of TVMAX in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Dallas-based TVMAX is currently beginning the process of converting its customer base over to Comcast's cable system.
Customers who were previously being served by TVMAX -- whose South Florida operation was based in Hallandale Beach -- will now have access to additional analog channels and a full complement of digital channels. Comcast, which is based in Philadelphia, will be upgrading the cable systems for many of these properties so they can receive the same services other Comcast customers are now able to access.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. TVMAX officials could not be reached for comment.
People who are switching from TVMAX to Comcast will also receive High Definition Television and 3.0 Comcast High Speed Internet Service. These customers will also have access to Home Networking, Digital Video Recorders and Video on Demand when they premiere in South Florida later this year.
Since rates are specific to each property, some people may see increases in their cable bill to keep consistent with Comcast rates, said Comcast spokesman Spero Canton.
The average Comcast bill for customers in South Florida is $47 a month, Canton said.
"Subscriber growth has slowed to a crawl so growth now comes from acquiring other subscribers like this or selling more services to your customer base," said Jeff Kagan, an Atlanta-based independent Telecom industry analyst.
