Upper Canada District School Board Selects Nevis to Secure 100+ Schools

Nevis Networks, a provider of comprehensive LAN security solutions, announced its LANenforcer LAN security appliance has been selected by Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) for integration into its private network to protect more than 100 schools with 40,000 users. UCDSB is using Nevis' LANenforcer 2024 LAN security appliances to provide identity-based access control and to reduce the risk of LAN-based threats gaining access and propagating within their private network.
"Both students and staff are regular users of our network which creates a challenge to assure appropriate access to data," said Jeremy Hobbs, CIO of UCDSB. "We provide public Internet access, access to library and class resources, and controlled access to confidential data such as student records and financials within our private network. We needed a way to easily and cost effectively manage, enforce, and audit access control based upon the identity of a user. In addition, we've experienced issues with malware propagation and network downtime. We needed a solution to reduce the risk of threats gaining access and spreading within our network -- without the need to install client-based software. After evaluating other security solutions, we selected Nevis' LANenforcer as the best solution to meet our needs."
Nevis' LANenforcer 2024 LAN security appliances are deployed centrally within UCDSB's private network to provide persistent access control and threat protection before and after users gain access to the network. It uniquely combines clientless endpoint integrity verification, identity-based access control, and parallelized wirespeed threat detection (stateful firewall; traffic, protocol and behavioral anomaly detection, intrusion prevention system (IPS)) and quarantine, to detect and stop known and zero-day threats.
"Educational institutions like UCDSB are focused on protecting confidential data while reducing the risks of threats. It is critical that a security solution be cost effective and time efficient to deploy," said Shane Buckley, chief operating officer of Nevis Networks. "Nevis' LANenforcer 2024 supports 1,000 concurrent users and provides unmatched price/security depth and performance."
Nevis will be demonstrating its comprehensive wirespeed LAN security solutions at Interop, New York September 18-22, 2006 (booth #843).
