NeoPhotonics, a leading global supplier of fiber optic products for long-haul, metro and FTTX networks, announced that CEO Tim Jenks today received the 2006 Small Times magazine "Best of Small Tech Business Leader" Award. At ceremonies held here as part of the NanoCon International 2006 conference, the magazine honored Mr. Jenks for achievements that epitomize globalization and competitiveness.
The 2006 Small Times Magazine Best of Small Tech Awards recognize the best people, products and companies in nanotechnology, MEMS and microsystems. The panel of judges considered accomplishments between June 1, 2005 and June 1, 2006.
"The award winners and finalists this year truly reflect the diversity of companies and people that are shaping the MEMS and nanotechnology communities - from tools innovators to fabs to companies bringing commercial applications to a wide range of markets," said Patti Glaza, Vice President and Group Publisher of Small Times(TM).
Among other accomplishments last year, Mr. Jenks successfully merged the California-based NeoPhotonics with Photon Technology Co., Ltd. of Shenzhen, PRC. The combined company provides manufacturing capabilities in China plus true global reach. The transaction closed in July 2005 and the combined NeoPhotonics entity had in 2005 more than $50 million in annual sales. In addition, the company's Shenzhen, China manufacturing facility achieved TL-9000 certification, an indispensable credential for supplying components to most of the world's large telecom equipment manufacturers.
Now double in size and with more than 2000 employees worldwide, NeoPhotonics has kept up the pace in 2006 by announcing several new products, establishing new European distribution channels and completing three additional strategic acquisitions to enhance the company's MEMS and planar optical integration technology platform. As a result, the company now has a revenue rate now exceeding $100 million annually.
"Awards like this name individuals, but this one truly represents a team effort at NeoPhotonics," said Mr. Jenks. "We have a very strong team at NeoPhotonics, one that has worked hard to build our company over the last ten years. Therefore, I look forward to accepting this award on behalf of the entire company, as I believe this award recognizes the important, 'game changing' impact nano and micro materials and process technologies are having across numerous industries, including the telecom sector."
The recipients of the Small Times Magazine Best of Small Tech Awards, along with the winners, were selected by nominations and applications submitted by companies and individuals. Small Times Media news staff and an industry panel of experts reviewed the applicants and selected one winner and four winners in six categories, plus lifetime achievement. A complete list of winners and runners-up can be found in the November/December issue of Small Times magazine and online at www.smalltimes.com.
