Time Warner Telecom Launches Managed Security Services
Posted on: Tuesday, 22 June 2004, 06:00 CDT
CHICAGO, June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom , a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced its entry into the managed security services arena with the introduction of Network and CPE-based Firewall and Secure IP VPN services. The new services are available to businesses and organizations in 44 U.S. metropolitan areas. Time Warner Telecom made its Managed Security Services announcement at SUPERCOMM 2004, in Chicago.
"Business networks are increasingly under attack and security breaches occur more frequently than ever, resulting in financial and productivity losses," said Graham Taylor, senior vice president -- Marketing for Time Warner Telecom. "No company, utilizing the Internet, is immune from these attacks, making a compelling reason to ensure businesses implement a solid network security program."
2Checkout.com, a Columbus, Ohio-based e-commerce company is using Time Warner Telecom's Network-based Managed Security Service to enforce firewall policies prior to the establishment of its Internet link. This makes for cleaner, faster, and more efficient use of local loops to transmit communications to and from the Internet.
"The added layer of security and reliability that Time Warner Telecom's security offering provides, is exceeding our expectations," said Alan Homewood, CEO, 2Checkout.com, Inc. "This is a great resource for smaller companies that have meager IT resources, or for larger companies that desire another level of security."
A major benefit of Time Warner Telecom's Managed Security Services is the capability to mitigate Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks that are prevalent on the Internet today. Traditional managed security services filter 'unauthorized' traffic at the customer's premise, thus compromising a customer's ability to fully utilize their Internet access. With Network-based Managed Security Service, this activity is mitigated at the Time Warner Telecom Internet connection point, prior to the customer link being established, thereby detecting, alerting and mitigating attacks before they flood a customer's network. This solution is unique in the industry and provides a Layer 3 Stateful Packet Inspection (L3SPI) firewall to protect all 65,535 IP ports.
The CPE-based security solution provides premise-to-premise data encryption that may be required by certain industries with mandated privacy acts like HIPAA, GLB, and 21 CFR Part 11.
In both scenarios, the security solution is customized to meet specific customer network protection requirements, and is scalable with the customer's underlying Internet connectivity in tiered bandwidth increments. Time Warner Telecom's Managed Security Service delivers a dedicated team of local and national experts to offer robust and scalable solutions that include initial expert security consultations, on-site installations, five free security policy changes per month, executive reporting of security incidences, and around-the-clock service monitoring and response by its Security Operations Center.
This commitment to overall customer value is one of the reasons North American IT managers mentioned in naming Time Warner Telecom the #1 ISP in 2003, according to Network Magazine.
