ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 2003--American Fiber Systems (AFS), a leading nationwide provider of custom metropolitan fiber optic networks, today announced that it has completed installation of a dark fiber solution for The Headache & Pain Center in Leawood, Kansas.
The long-term contract for AFS service enables The Headache & Pain Center to send data, voice and imaging between its medical facilities with a virtually unlimited supply of broadband connectivity at a fixed price.
"The AFS network gives us an advanced communications solution for all of our current and emerging data and radiology requirements," said Mike Nemechek, Chief Executive Officer of the Headache and Pain Center. "Shortly, our physicians will be viewing records and high resolution images between our centers at amazing speed. Our goal is to leverage technology to deliver high-quality care fast, making us a stronger competitor for the healthcare dollar in the Kansas City metro area."
"We are excited to offer unlimited bandwidth to the Kansas City market by bringing dark fiber solutions to the doorstep of area businesses", says John Marchaesi, AFS Senior Vice President. "AFS is particularly pleased to demonstrate the strategic value of boundless network capacity for medical applications and the growing practice of the Headache and Pain Center."
"This technology initiative was justified by the economics of dark fiber and the remarkable impact on our business operations, resulting in better service and value for our patients", according to Nemechek.
The AFS dark-fiber network has been operational for two years and extends 53 miles throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area and surrounding communities, connecting the central business districts, primary communication centers and business parks.
