Internet Research Group Publishes New Report on Cisco's WAAS Product Line

Posted on: Monday, 2 October 2006, 09:00 CDT

Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced its latest report on Wide Area Networking (WAN) -- "WAAS Up? Cisco Fleshes Out its WAN Offering." The report analyzes the potential impact that Cisco's new WAAS (wide area application services) appliance and blade offering will have on the WAN acceleration market.

"This is a very important offering from Cisco and is likely to be quite disruptive for the current market," noted Peter Christy, co-founder of IRG. "Cisco's WAAS offering and Microsoft's Branch Office Initiative are two key vendor strategies to address the challenges of modern application deployment. Interestingly, with the introduction of WAAS Cisco is positioning the offering as potentially complementary to even Microsoft, rather than as a direct competitor, a perspective that we think makes sense."

The study is available now. Tables of contents can be found at www.irg-intl.com. Vendors in the WAN sector include Akamai, Certeon, Cisco, Citrix, Expand Networks, F5, Juniper, Microsoft, NetD, Netli, Packeteer, Riverbed, SilverPeak, Stampede, Stratacache and Streamcore.
