24-Hour Remote Computer Support Joins the Geek Squad(R) Roster of Civilian Service Options

Posted on: Wednesday, 4 October 2006, 09:00 CDT

The Minnesota-based Geek Squad computer support task force today announced the launch of Remote Computer Support, a new service that enables civilians to access a Geek Squad Agent remotely to diagnose and fix a computer problem. Now civilians can avoid tidying up the home office for fear of embarrassment once an Agent arrives, as Remote Computer Support allows Geek Squad to analyze and improve the condition of software problems virtually.

All Geek Squad Covert Operations Agents are located within the United States -- in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- ready to assist as needed. Oblivious to the coast's legendary sunny weather, they are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for remote interface. And although they may not be making house calls, these Agents maintain the fabled professionalism and courtesy of Geek Squad.

Access to Remote Computer Support requires nothing more than a broadband Internet connection and a phone call to 1-800-Geek-Squad, where customers speak with Geek Squad Mission Control. After determining that the problem can be fixed remotely (hardware problems still require a physical Agent's interaction), the call moves to a Covert Operations Agent, who directs the civilian to log on to a safe and secure Web site. At this point, the Covert Agent has the same level of access as an in-home visit, and can interact with the civilian's computer to fix an operating system, remove a virus or spyware infection, or secure a private wireless network. The Agent stays on the phone with the civilian throughout the process, explaining each step and the cause of the problem as it is resolved.

"From our start in 1994 through our nationwide expansion, the goal of Geek Squad has always been to take the confusion and frustration out of technology," says Founder and Chief Inspector Robert Stephens. "While Geek Squad has long given customers the freedom to use technology as they see fit, these online options let them do so without even changing out of their pajamas. Our dedicated Agents are ignoring the call of Florida's sandy beaches and beautiful weather to provide America with constant help."

Civilians eager to forge better relationships with technology and protect their precious data can access Remote Computer Support by calling 1-800-GEEK-SQUAD or visiting www.GeekSquad.com and navigating to "Ask an Agent" under "Services and Pricing." Once there, a friendly Geek Squad Agent will walk customers through several easy steps to determine the problem and either repair it online or arrange for an Agent to take care of it in person. As always, Agents are also located at Geek Squad precincts inside local Best Buy stores and available for in-home support via 1-800-GEEK-SQUAD.
