Jun. 28--TOKYO -- Fujitsu Ltd. and Microsoft Corp. of the United States said Monday they have agreed to cooperate in development of "mission critical" computer systems for corporate clients.
The accord calls for merging Fujitsu's hardware technologies and Microsoft's software development capabilities to satisfy the needs of corporate clients such as banks and manufacturers, Fujitsu officials said.
Such clients need to have particularly reliable network systems due to the nature of their businesses, they said.
The deal envisions installing Microsoft's "Windows Server 2003" operating system and its successor-system versions on Fujitsu's high-grade servers, with an eye to giving resultant products capabilities and reliability that match those of large mainframe computers, the two said.
The deal also calls for merging the advanced technologies of the two companies in the fields of software and services associated with the resultant servers.
Fujitsu said it will start marketing the products and services in the first half of next year. The two companies said they are seeking to post sales of 800 billion yen by 2007.
