Mercury Computer Systems Triples I/O Bandwidth for Latest RapidIO System

CHELMSFORD, Mass., June 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. today announced the ImpactRT(TM) 3200 multicomputer, a significant performance boost to its successful high- performance signal and image processing system based on the open standard RapidIO(R) interconnect architecture. Delivering up to 3.1 TeraOPS of processing with 575 Gbytes/s of internal system bandwidth and supporting up to 36 Gbytes/s of fiber I/O, the ImpactRT 3200 is ideal for high-end bandwidth and processing challenges in a commercial environment, including semiconductor imaging, and defense simulation and stimulation systems.

"The balanced architecture of the ImpactRT 3200 system uses an optimized implementation of the RapidIO switch fabric to more than triple the I/O performance to tackle the massive data streams."
The ImpactRT 3000 product line is based on the CompactPCI form factor. The ImpactRT 3200 has two significant enhancements over its predecessor: faster processors, at 1.35 GHz compared to 1.0 GHz, and more than triple the fiber I/O capacity, up to 36 Gbytes/s from 10 Gbytes/s. ImpactRT systems are optimized for cost-effective performance in commercial environments. Mercury also offers the RapidIO-based PowerStream(R) 7000, a ruggedized multicomputer targeted for high-end signal and image processing applications in deployed defense electronics systems.
Mercury's industry-leading multiprocessor graphical development and debugging tools, such as the multiprocessor trace analysis tool and library (TATL(TM)), enable the development of complex, real-time applications on the ImpactRT 3200. Multiprocessor communication libraries and algorithm libraries convert "islands of processing power" into a single, parallel-processing system that increases throughput and reduces latency. Software for the ImpactRT 3200 system is compatible with Mercury's widely used RACE++(R) Series software, maintaining the existing application programming interfaces (APIs) and development tool chain.
Availability
ImpactRT 3200 systems will begin shipping in July for configurations up to 2 TeraOPS and 24 Gbytes/s of fiber I/O. Larger configurations are expected to be available later this year.
