Bangladesh exports and ICT business are expected to get a boost with the opening of Bangladesh ICT Business Center (BIBC) recently at Silicon Valley, Santa Clara, US.

ICT Business Promotion Council (IBPC), a body of public and private representatives of ICT-related sectors in Dhaka, sponsored the setting up of BIBC, Suhel Ahmed, Commerce Secretary and Chairman of BIBC, disclosed at a press conference at Bangladesh Computer Samity Office yesterday.

In the press conference, representatives of 27 local ICT companies and Suhel Ahmed signed a Mamoradum of Understanding (MoU) for using the shared office facility of BIBC at Silicon Valley.

Terming IBPC a successful public and private participation, the commerce secretary said with the physical presence in Silicon Valley, the ICT heart of the US, the ICT sector of the country would penetrate the American as well as the global market through their software products and offshore outsourcing.

Habibullah N Karim, President of Bangladesh Association of Information Services (BASIS), informed that the BIBC facilities consisted of 2,000 square feet of office space, a number of shared office rooms and conference rooms, with high-tech services and supports.

Sabur Khan, President of BCS, said the Business Center would have broadband connection, servers and PCs. Each company will have a dedicated telephone line, web link and e-mail access to establish business links in the US, he added.
