TurnHere to Produce Cell Phone Videos for Discovery Mobile

Posted on: Wednesday, 18 October 2006, 09:00 CDT

TurnHere Productions, a digital media company specializing in online video, today announced it will produce short videos for Discovery Communications, Inc. to be used as cell phone content for the debut of Discovery Mobile, a dedicated 24-hour mobile programming network launched in September 2006.

TurnHere uses its global network of professional filmmakers to produce short films featuring interesting neighborhoods, merchants and travel destinations throughout the world. TurnHere will produce several series of three-minute videos, each series with a specific theme, which will be available to cell phone users through Discovery Mobile's video content offerings. The first series called, "You Are Here," will feature twenty-four short films on landmarks around the world, including Crater Lake, Ellis Island, La Brea Tar Pits, The Hoover Dam, San Francisco Cable Cars and The Queen Mary.

"Discovery Mobile is an ideal platform for the authentic, intimate style of TurnHere films because cell phone users are often on the go and have a limited amount of time to watch video," said Bradley J. Inman, founder and CEO of TurnHere. "Through the unique vision of a local narrator, consumers can now see U.S. landmarks and other destinations from around the world brought to life on their cell phones with Discovery Mobile."

Industry analysts believe that consumer adoption of mobile video is growing. Market analysis from Jupiter Research recently estimated that the number of regular users of mobile video would grow to almost 12 million consumers by 2010.

"With the unique documentary perspective of their films, TurnHere's short form video on local and global destinations is a natural addition to Discovery Mobile's offerings of real-world original content," said Douglas Craig, vice president of new media, Discovery Communications.
