EMRISE CORPORATION (NYSE ARCA:ERI), a multi-national manufacturer of custom defense and aerospace electronic components and communications equipment, today announced that its subsidiary, Pascall Electronics Ltd., has been selected as the source and received initial orders for a custom subsystem assembly including radio frequency (RF) subsystems, power supplies and GSM transceivers for the AeroMobile aircraft Base Transceiver Station (BTS, or picocell).
The AeroMobile system is designed to support incoming and outgoing GSM voice calls and text messages over the Inmarsat hardware already installed in over 1,900 aircraft. This new BTS is compatible with U.S. and World GSM. The system includes a cabin-crew panel providing full control over the activation, deactivation and mode of operation of the system to support service options such as quiet times during the flight.
Under its contract with AeroMobile, Pascall has produced subassemblies for both the cabin radio-frequency management unit (CRFMU) and the BTS/picocell.
Commenting on the order, Len Down, Managing Director of Pascall Electronics Ltd., said, "Securing these orders represents a significant milestone for Pascall, ensuring that we are at the forefront of the rapidly growing market for multimedia and communication services on commercial airlines. We have directed a substantial amount of our sales and marketing resources toward seeking opportunities for integrated subsystems such as these where we can provide RF, power supplies and communication devices such as GSM. This is a major breakthrough for us."
Graham Jefferies, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of EMRISE, commented, "This order and the commitment by our customer to our technology reflects our growing penetration in the commercial aerospace market, complementing our already extensive penetration in the military aerospace market. Partnering with AeroMobile puts us in the forefront of the next generation of on-board multimedia and communications systems. We are focused on this market as a primary growth driver within EMRISE Corporation, especially as the in-flight multi media services market continues to expand rapidly."
