First Wireless Municipal Network to Start Service in Ariel, Israel

Posted on: Thursday, 19 October 2006, 18:00 CDT

ADC (NASDAQ:ADCT) (www.adc.com), a leader in communications network infrastructure solutions, today announced that it has joined a consortium of more than a dozen companies, led by Nortel Israel, that have established a joint wireless municipal network solution.

The member companies have integrated their products to form a powerful, end-to-end wireless municipal network solution that has been deployed as the first-ever wireless municipal network in Israel.

The combined, integrated network solution includes, among others, these elements:

A mesh network built of Nortel radio access points;

ADC's SG-1 access controller and service gateway system;

Authentication, authorization and accounting; and

Billing.

ADC's SG-1 Service Gateway is used by operators in major metropolitan cities in North America. Ideally suited for wireless municipal networks and other broadband ATM or IP-based networks (DSL, cable), the SG-1 enables service providers to add an intelligent layer of value-added services, such as dynamic bandwidth management and content on demand, without the need for additional, dedicated client software. Service providers now can profitably offer differentiated services and content to users based on individual user profiles.

The SG-1 is at the forefront of innovative technology for customizable, durable network connectivity. The solution's unique drop-in-architecture allows the product to co-exist with any existing network or web technology. Designed for central office or distributed, remote customer premises environments, the SG-1's access control features, combined with dynamic interactive service capabilities, support 1,000 to 128,000 concurrent users on one 16-slot system.

Other SG-1 features include:

Location-based captive portals;

Creation of walled gardens for protected environments;

Differentiated access rights, user interaction and public safety applications;

Bandwidth-on-demand

Support for user mobility and roaming; and

Application awareness for peer-to-peer and Voice over IP
