Anheuser-Busch Announces It Will Use Independent Age-Verification Check for All Branded Web Sites

Posted on: Monday, 23 October 2006, 18:01 CDT

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Anheuser-Busch, Inc., today announced it will be implementing an independent age-verification check for all its branded web sites, such as http://www.budweiser.com/ , in 2007. Bud.TV, the new online entertainment network that will launch in February 2007, will also use an independent age-check process.

"As a maker of an adult product, we have always directed our marketing to our customers, adults of legal drinking age, 21 and older," emphasized Tony Ponturo, vice president of Global Media and Sports Marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "This has included asking adults to enter their birth date to gain access to our web sites. Emerging technology for independent age verification now allows us to more precisely identify adult visitors to our sites without inconveniencing them."

Anheuser-Busch is currently talking with several different age-verification companies; however, a final selection of vendor has not yet been made. The company plans to have the independent age verification in place on all of its brand web sites and Bud.TV in February 2007.
