NEW YORK, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Transition Networks Inc., the conversion technology expert, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc., today announced the introduction of its new, analog video copper-to-fiber media converters. These converters provide means to transport analog NTSC, PAL or SECAM video signals plus pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) serial data over multimode or single mode fiber, allowing cost-effective integration of copper-based PTZ cameras with optical infrastructure.
"We are pleased to offer these new PTZ-compatible, analog video media converters to complement our already successful fixed video media converters," said Bill Schultz, vice president of marketing at Transition Networks. "Whether analog or IP video, fixed or PTZ, or the integration of power over Ethernet (POE) capabilities, Transition Networks now offers a complete video conversion platform allowing customers to integrate the benefits of fiber optic cabling into their video security and surveillance networks."
Product Features and Configuration
The video media converters are intended to be used in pairs with the TX converter transmitting an analog video signal from the coaxial output on the camera over fiber optic cabling to an optical video RX converter which then converts the signal back to an analog NTSC, PAL or SECAM video signal on coax. The pan/tilt/zoom functionality is transmitted via a serial data signal compatible with RS232/RS422/RS485 from the twisted pair port on the PTZ controller over the same optical link between converters and then converted back to copper cabling near the camera. Transparent encoding of the serial data ensures compatibility with major CCTV camera manufacturers.

The real-time, full-color video quality is maintained or improved with the Automatic Gain Control feature allowing for up to 20km transmission distance over fiber optic cabling. The miniature size allows the transmitter to be mounted directly to the camera or wall-mounted nearby. The receiver comes in both Point System chassis card and stand-alone versions offering a multitude of mounting options and the ability to remotely monitor the receiver via SNMP. The stand-alone devices also have a wide input range power supply allowing for multiple choices of power source including the camera power supply.
