Mercury Computer Systems Announces Application-Ready Platform for Wideband Data Links and SATCOM Processing
Posted on: Tuesday, 24 October 2006, 09:00 CDT
WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. announced the availability of its application-ready platform for wideband data links and satellite communications (WBDLS) processing, at MILCOM 2006 in Washington, DC.
The integrated COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) platform includes the Mercury Echotek(TM) Series ECV4-RFT 6U Wideband Remote Fiber Transceiver, which combines high-speed A/D and D/A technology, Xilinx(R) Virtex(TM)-4 FPGA reconfigurable processing, and fiber I/O. This board brings the benefits of COTS to applications such as 274 Mbps and higher wideband data links that require a blend of wideband I/O from dual 1.5 Gsps 8-bit A/D converters and dual 1.2 Gsps 14-bit D/A converters, combined with powerful processing and low-latency data transfer. The onboard FPGA reconfigurable processing resources bring digital processing capabilities closer to the sensor (typically an antenna), and enable multi-board coherent processing in distributed systems.
"Mercury's subsystem-level solutions make COTS available for the latest wideband communications links," said Mike Kosmicki, Director of Defense Communications at Mercury Computer Systems. "Our rugged offerings combine the high-speed A/D and D/A converters, FPGAs, and waveform component portability infrastructure necessary for developing and deploying WBDLS applications in program builds just months away."
The integrated solution includes Mercury's Component Portability Infrastructure (CPI), which provides a pre-validated platform to interface the FPGA waveform application with a high-performance switch fabric, onboard memory, communications, system command and control, and I/O. CPI's non- proprietary Open Core Protocol (OCP)-based interfaces act as a Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) to increase the portability of FPGA applications. CPI also provides software modules necessary to seamlessly integrate the infrastructure to any SCA v2.2+ compliant Core Framework.
Mercury will demonstrate CPI using FPGAs at MILCOM 2006 in Booth #1013. In addition, Mercury will present three papers in the Technical Program's Radio Systems and Technologies Track, and participate on the panel "COTS is ready for Wideband Data Links and SATCOM processing," during the MILCOM 2006 exhibition at the Wardman Park Marriott, Washington, DC.
