Fujitsu FlexFrame for Oracle Provides Integrated Adaptive Computing Solution for Oracle Grid

Posted on: Tuesday, 24 October 2006, 09:00 CDT

Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation today announced FlexFrame(R) for Oracle(R), an adaptive computing solution for virtualizing and automating Oracle grid environments. Developed together with Oracle, FlexFrame for Oracle offers high level of automation and virtualization for Oracle-based applications, middleware and database services. The benefits are achieved through tight integration of Fujitsu's policy-based management software with Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control (Grid Control), allowing organizations to increase the utilization of IT resources and drive down costs.

Designed for use with Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Database with Real Application Clusters, and based on the Grid Computing capabilities of Oracle Database 10g, FlexFrame for Oracle enable flexibility in deploying and maintaining mission-critical applications. The solution is designed for organizations running mission critical applications whose IT capacity regularly fluctuates due to temporary, resource-consuming business functions such as payroll or month-end closes.

"The virtualization and automation of applications presents organizations with a tremendous opportunity to consolidate workloads, reduce operational costs, and adapt more quickly to changing customer requirements and industry demands, including governance and regulatory challenges," said Jean S. Bozman, vice president in IDC's Global Enterprise Solutions Group. "Oracle applications are a key component of many corporate software portfolios, and the organizations that move these applications to a robust, scalable adaptive computing platform first can gain a competitive advantage."

FlexFrame for Oracle is an adaptive computing solution specifically designed to virtualize and automate the Oracle IT infrastructure, not just the hardware. FlexFrame for Oracle allows Oracle Database 10g with Real Application Clusters and Oracle Fusion Middleware to run on any server upon demand. FlexFrame virtualizes the system resources utilized by Oracle applications, middleware and database. This abstraction enables higher resource utilization and easier management of resources. Customers will realize improved TCO savings and will be able to respond with higher quality service to their end users.

"Fujitsu and Oracle continue to work closely to simplify deployment and management of mission-critical enterprise systems," said Jay Rossiter, Vice President, System Management Products at Oracle. "Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g now enables FlexFrame for Oracle to deliver superior grid automation, helping joint customers to get the most from their grid infrastructure investments."

FlexFrame for Oracle is fully automated to ensure the highest quality of service, dynamically shifting resources according to the business policies determined by the IT department. Constant monitoring of the infrastructure, service availability and application performance ensures that deviations are immediately addressed, and actions taken according to pre-defined rules. An example is the automatic provision and restart of a failed or slow service on a free server or re-allocation of a low-priority service. Automation enables faster deployment and the ability to dynamically provision running applications with the resources they need to respond to changing workloads. New servers can be added easily and are immediately available to any Oracle service that requires the resources.

"FlexFrame for Oracle helps companies reduce complexity in their software architecture and accelerate their move to more efficient, more cost-effective server infrastructure to help them do more with less and adapt quickly to a changing world," said Patricia Hanford, director of alliances at Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation. "As a key solution of the Fujitsu TRIOLE(R) methodology, FlexFrame for Oracle leverages virtualization and automation to help companies reduce costs through simpler management, lower maintenance overhead, and greater agility."

General availability of FlexFrame for Oracle is expected in early 2007.
