Advanced Technology Systems Achieves CMMI Level 3 Rating

Posted on: Wednesday, 25 October 2006, 09:00 CDT

Advanced Technology Systems, Inc., an information technology company that delivers innovative technology solutions to federal, state, and local government organizations, today announced it has achieved a Level 3 rating of the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) for Systems Engineering and Software Engineering. ATS's CMMI Level 3 achievement was determined by the completion of a SCAMPI Class A appraisal, led by an external, SEI-Authorized Lead Appraiser from The Process Company, LLC. This appraisal confirmed that Advanced Technology Systems demonstrates compliance with the SEI's internationally recognized appraisal framework for standardized software development processes.

The SEI developed the Capability Maturity Model to assist industry and government in establishing a formal method to evaluate software suppliers beyond the simple "low bidder" criteria. Organizations moving up the Capability Maturity Model typically offer their customers such benefits as improved throughput, lower costs, enhanced quality, more predictable and successful project deliveries, and higher user satisfaction. The SEI works closely with defense and government organizations, industry, and academia to continually improve software-intensive systems.

"At Advanced Technology Systems, we are intently focused on delivering better products and better services to our government customers and helping them improve their own use of information technology. By continuing to improve our software development processes, we can help ensure that we deliver more accurate, defect free solutions, on time and under budget, to government organizations," said Leon Perry, Chief Operating Officer at Advanced Technology Systems. "We are proud to have achieved an SEI Level 3 rating, and we will strive to continuously improve our processes and achieve an even higher level of software engineering prowess."

The SEI serves the nation as a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. It seeks to help organizations make measured improvements in their software engineering capabilities and serves as a national resource for software engineering, computer security, and process improvement. SEI ratings are comprised of five maturity levels and are earned through an exhaustive independent evaluation involving analysis and review of a company's software development capability, its processes and its products. The maturity model is used to guide process improvement across a project, division, or an entire organization.
