Embarq Chooses NewStep Networks for Converged Services Solution
Posted on: Thursday, 26 October 2006, 09:00 CDT
NewStep Networks Inc., the market and technology leader in convergence solutions for carriers and enterprises, today announced that Embarq is rolling out seamless converged wireless and wireline services in six markets using the NewStep Converged Services Node (CSN) product. Embarq™ Smart Connect, which is based on NewStep-specific technology, gives users the ability to transparently move calls between wireless, Wi-Fi and wireline networks, thereby increasing Embarq's customer satisfaction, reducing churn and creating tremendous opportunity for the service provider.
"NewStep is excited to work with Embarq as they roll out the first converged service to customers in the U.S.," said Neil Baimel, president and CEO for NewStep Networks. "By choosing NewStep's patented CSN technology, Embarq is able to offer unique and transparent services--independent of networks or devices--at a level of functionality that is not available with other fixed-mobile convergence technologies and solutions."
Initially, Embarq is using NewStep Networks solution to offer Embarq™ Smart Connect, which enables business to have a single local phone number for multiple devices, simultaneous ringing, seamless Wi-Fi/cellular dual-mode handoff, and Web-based call management. In addition, business customers will also save on the wireless minutes used in the office by transparently switching calls between wireless, Wi-Fi and wireline networks.
"Our objectives are to provide our customers a flexible and differentiated service so their customers can reach them in more places, improve their wireless coverage, and lower their operating costs. The technologies provided by NewStep uniquely positioned them as the best choice for EMBARQ," said Rob Kermode, Director of Emerging Technologies. "We chose NewStep because it met both our business and operational needs and at the same time providing our customers an exceptionally flexible solution."
As part of the deal, NewStep is providing its patented, carrier-class CSN server-based software platform, which converges services across diverse networks to enable subscribers to have a single number, single voicemail, simultaneous ringing across multiple phones, and other features like corporate extension dialing, from the mobile phones they use today. By extending traditional desktop PBX phone capabilities to today's mobile phones, and allowing the easy transfer of calls between fixed and mobile phones, users get a more consistent, simplified communications experience at a lower cost, and service providers are able to deliver a higher value bundle of fixed-mobile services.
