Northwestern University Team Wins Dell-Microsoft National Marketing Competition at Hispanic MBA Conference

CINCINNATI, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- A team of business students from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University took top honors here today at the fifth annual Dell-Microsoft Marketing Case Competition, a commitment to diversity, education and professional development of Hispanic talent.

Executives from Dell and co-sponsor Microsoft served as judges for the day-long competition, held in conjunction with the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) 17th Annual Conference and Career Expo. The contest has become a much-anticipated feature of the annual event, which attracted about 7,000 Hispanic MBA students and professionals and more than 350 of the Fortune 500 companies.

The Northwestern University team was one of six that developed and presented a marketing strategy for the launch of Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. Other final-round schools included Babson College, Howard University, Indiana University, University of Texas at Austin and University of Texas at Dallas.

Each team was asked to develop a market strategy for the software launch by focusing on one of four key customer usage models: productivity; digital music; digital photography and casual gaming. Prizes for each winning team member included a 23-inch Dell TV and a Microsoft Xbox 360.

Dell has been a long-time supporter of NSHMBA and made a repeat appearance on the annual "most admired employers" list issued by the publishers of Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine.

In addition, Dell has been named to Latin Business magazine's corporate diversity honor roll and one of "top 50 recruitment companies" by Hispanic magazine. Dell was also named to three "best of the best" lists for 2005 by Hispanic Network Magazine: best companies for supplier diversity; best companies for Hispanics and best companies for diversity. Dell's voluntary diversity efforts were recognized with the 2005 Secretary of Labor Opportunity Award, the highest honor given by the U.S. Department of Labor to federal contractors in this area.

Microsoft received the 2006 Corporate Partner of the Year Award from the Hispanic National Bar Association and is listed within the 2005 Hispanic Corporate 100 by Hispanic Magazine. In addition, Microsoft was named a Top 50 Corporation for Multicultural Business Opportunities in a 2005 survey by DiversityBusiness.com. Microsoft is also ranked #42 in Fortune Magazine's 2006 100 Best Companies To Work For, and placed #10 on Fortune's list of the 2006 Most Admired Companies, including #1 industry ranking for social responsibility.
