Reuters Taps MediaSpan to Power Global Multimedia News Production Platform
Posted on: Monday, 30 October 2006, 12:00 CST
MediaSpan, the leading provider of digital content management, online marketing and national advertising solutions for over 4,000 local media properties, announced today that its Media Software unit will develop a global news publishing platform for Reuters, the world's largest international news agency. Reuters news is seen by over 1 billion people every day.
Based on MediaSpan's Jazbox editorial software, the system will be deployed in Reuters bureaus worldwide and enable journalists to assemble and deliver multimedia news packages incorporating text, pictures, graphics and video in seven languages to the agency's news media and financial market customers, as well as to Web sites such as www.reuters.com. In all, over 1,000 of Reuters media customers, as well as more than 350,000 financial market professionals, will benefit from this new content.
"Increasingly our customers demand that Reuters gives them a complete 360-degree view of stories, which pulls together all of the different elements of our multimedia news coverage," says Thomas Defoe, Head of Product Management, Reuters News Production. "MediaSpan's Jazbox will give us new, easy-to-use capabilities that will enable our journalists to significantly increase the breadth and depth of our output, at a lower cost. Reuters chose to partner with MediaSpan because of the company's profile in the industry and track record in working with large media organizations, including leading news agencies. We believe that Jazbox comes closest to matching our vision for a multimedia news production platform."
"MediaSpan Software is the world's premier provider of digital news delivery solutions. Whether it is print, web, or wireless our goal is to help media companies efficiently create, deliver and monetize their content. We are pleased to have Reuters join the list of leading news organizations that will leverage Jazbox to increase productivity and streamline operations," says Dr. F.R. Campagnoni, MediaSpan CEO.
Jazbox is currently in use at three major North American newspaper chains, and in September MediaSpan announced an enterprise level deal with Sun Media, Canada's largest chain of news tabloids. The Press Association, the UK's national news agency, has been using Jazbox since 2002 and an increasing number of large media owners are installing the system as a content hub for the production of newspapers, Web sites and other digital offerings.
"Reuters selection of MediaSpan's Jazbox solution underscores the fact that it is becoming the global standard for news syndication solutions," added Dr. Campagnoni.
Jazbox features the ability to design packages that speed workflow and move information to a variety of media. New distribution features in Jazbox 4.0 have been designed to meet the challenge of global news community via multiple servers deployed to handle the delays of long distance networks, saving bandwidth in the process.
